Happy Flag Day

In the Emirates, citizens have a special kind of feeling about their flag. The organic relation between this people and their flag is unique of its kind.

The citizens of each country are attached to their flags, but in UAE we share an exceptional view of our flag. It is a symbol of the care and attention we receive from our leadership and our country. It stands for every achievement this country has made for the best of our future generations. So the UAE flag holds a special place in our hearts and we wave it in all national events.

On November 3 of every year, our nation celebrates Flag Day. In this special national event, the people show their loyalty and love for the country. Flag Day is the day of the nation, of the founding fathers and of honor and all the values of bravery and righteousness that we defend in the battlefields under our flag.

The UAE flag stands for defending the oppressed and championing human values. The flag was waving wherever humanitarian aid was needed—in Somalia, Kosovo and Afghanistan, southern Lebanon and occupied Palestinian territories, the refugee camps in Jordan and Turkey, Haiti, and finally in the Bangladesh borders where Rohingya Muslims faced the worse oppression and genocide by the Myanmar authorities.

The flag was carried by our memorable soldiers in Yemen and humanitarian workers in Afghanistan many of whom gave their lives to defend the nation.

In 2013, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai started a new tradition that in November 3 of each year, we shall celebrate Flag Day which falls on the day where His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, assumed the presidency of the UAE. The date became an opportunity to strengthen the bonds between the new generations and their generous motherland.

Uniting our hearts in the love of the Emirates, this day is the time when everybody jointly raises the flag of the Union. In one month of festivities, we celebrate Flag Day, Martyr’s Day and finally our National Day.

Flag Day is the day of national cohesion, of patriotism, and of progress. In that day, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan assumed the reins of government succeeding the late founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Not just the citizens but all the residents of the UAE share the celebration. The land of tolerance and coexistence welcomes everyone willing to contribute to progress and shaping the future.

In the hearts and minds of us all dwells our beloved flag. Long live the flag, the leadership and the sons of the United Arab Emirates.
